Council Tax Officer

Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join their team as a Council Tax Officer. In this role, you will be responsible for administering council tax accounts, processing benefit claims, and providing support to residents regarding their council tax and benefits queries. Key Responsibilities:Administer council tax accounts, including billing, collection, and enforcement proceduresProcess housing benefit and council tax reduction claims accurately and efficientlyConduct reviews and investigations into benefit entitlements and council tax discounts/exemptionsProvide advice and assistance to residents regarding council tax, benefits, and related mattersLiaise with other departments and external agencies to resolve complex issues and queriesMaintain accurate records and databases in accordance with data protection regulationsSupport initiatives to improve service delivery and efficiency within the revenues and benefits teamRequirements:Previous experience working in a similar role within a local authority or relevant sectorSound knowledge of council tax legislation, benefits regulations, and welfare reformStrong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial informationExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a diverse audienceProficiency in using computerised systems and Microsoft Office applicationsAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environmentCommitment to providing high-quality customer service and maintaining confidentialityExperience working in a revenues environmentExcellent communication skillsThis role is on a temporary basis to start in May and to end in September. You will be working on a hybrid basis, 40% office based. Working hours will be Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
